A meeting of residents, pressure groups, Sordars and other stakeholders was held in Rembigre today over the future of the contentious B Mahal lands.
Opposition has emerged of late against the Chief Executive Member of the GHADC over the compensation offered to certain parties for the land, with the intent to use it for a project by an Israeli company.
The meeting was conducted by GSU secretary of the Rembigre unit, Ellinath Marak, in the presence of all the pressure groups of the region. The main issue of the meeting was the B Mahal areas. The various prominent citizens who attended the meeting were opposed to the CEM’s proposals.
The chairman of the Garoland State Movement Committee’s Pedaldoba regional unit, Rimjen Ch Sangma, explained to the people that the land under the B Mahal does not belong to the GHADC but to the residents. Furthermore, they are custodians, not the owners of the land.
Sangma said that if the CEM or the GHADC wants to sell off the B Mahal lands, then original documents should be shown to the residents of the region.
