Shillong, Jun 5: A proposal for the release of commemorative postage stamps focusing on Arunachal Pradesh’s rich heritage, culture, and unique identity was discussed in a meeting held today between Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik, and Brajesh Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Northeast Circle, in Shillong.
The proposed stamps are expected to highlight the State’s indigenous tribes, traditions and culture, heritage sites, flora and fauna, GI-tagged indigenous products, and handicrafts.
During the meeting, Kumar provided an overview of the approval process for the issuance of commemorative stamps by the Department of Posts. He presented the Governor with a postage stamp album and a book titled “Journey of India Through Philately.”
Governor Parnaik emphasised that philately serves as an effective medium for preserving heritage and fostering public awareness. Through this initiative, the cultural and natural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh can be celebrated and showcased to audiences both within the country and internationally.
Governor Parnaik appreciated the proposal and expressed his enthusiasm regarding Arunachal Pradesh’s potential to carve a place in the history of the Department of Posts through such commemorative initiatives.
