In accordance with the directives issued by the Chief Secretary and in compliance with the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the District Magistrate of West Jaiñtia Hills has under Section 144 of the CrPC imposed restrictions to protect the River Myntdu from being polluted and to prevent illegal activities along the river and on its riverbed.
The order prohibits tree felling in the vicinity of River Myntdu. Washing of clothes and vehicles, dumping of spoil and waste material (solid and liquid) along the course of the river and waste/muck from road construction is also prohibited.
The order also bans sand mining and stone quarries all along the Myntdu River and on its riverbed.
