The suspected poisoning of Umiam River led to the mass death of fish in an incident today.
The remains of many dead fish were found floating in the river by the Khasi Students Union and youth of Umktieh village at 5am.
The secretary of the Seng Samla Shnong Umktieh Pyllun, Cornelius Lyngdoh, and KSU Umktieh unit secretary, Richard Lyngdoh Nonglait, informed that they are trying to trace the person or persons involved in poisoning the river for legal action against them by the competent authority.
