Perturbed by a stench emanating from waste released by two restaurants directly into a public drain in Pahamrioh, residents have complained to the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi seeking immediate action.
On Friday, the DC deputed a magistrate to inspect the location where the waste from these restaurants has been blocking a drain, which had led to the build up of foul odours.
Speaking to reporters, Elianby Tynsong and a few elders expressed their concern over the dumping of waste by the two restaurants, namely Highway Dhaba 2 and the Sardarji Dhaba, located along the highway, which could lead to health hazards for the residents of Pahamrioh and Umskun villages as these drains connect up to canals and streams in the area.
Although residents had raised the matter with the Dorbar Shnong of Pahamrioh, no action was taken, leading them to approach the DC.
Executive Magistrate EK Dkhar inspected the site and will file a report with the DC soon.
