Shillong, Jun 30: What could have become a stressful experience ended with relief and gratitude, thanks to the swift action of staff at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati after unattended luggage with Rs 10.14 lakh in foreign currency was found and then successfully reunited with its rightful owner.
On June 26, during routine security screening at the airport’s Terminal 1, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on duty detected an unattended bag at the Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS). Following standard security protocols, the bag was secured and handed over to the airport’s lost and found team. Inside were US$10,720, 175 Chinese yuan, medicines and personal belongings. The name written on the bag and medicine strips provided the first clue in identifying the passenger.
After reviewing CCTV footage, the team confirmed that the passenger had already boarded a flight to Hyderabad. In coordination with CISF and Hyderabad airport authorities, the passenger was traced, ownership verified and the bag returned to an authorised representative.
