A panel discussion on the theme, ‘Higher Education in post Pandemic world: Challenges in the New Normal’ was today organised by the Department of Political Science and Department of Sociology, Shillong College as part of the 50th anniversary of the State.
The objective of the panel discussion was to understand the impact of the pandemic on teaching, learning and service functions of higher education and to conceptualise the “new normal” in post Covid-19 scenario.
Experts reiterated the importance of technology and the role of the state in the new normal in the light of past developments in higher education.
The panelists for the discussion included Professor S.M.Sungoh, an eminent educationist of the State of Meghalaya and Professor from the Department of Education, NEHU; Dr Jasmine Mary Lyngdoh, Consultant Clinical Psychologist with 30 Years experience; Ibanylla Wariri, Principal, Meghalaya Police Public School; Dr. E.W. Mawkhiew, Deputy Director DHTE.
The discussion was moderated by Dr Batskhem Myrboh, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Synod College.
During the discourse, issues and challenges pertaining to the impact of Covid 19 on higher education was discussed. The panelists had an in-depth discussion on innovative tools and techniques on how to respond and cope with the new challenges in higher education.
Meanwhile, the Education Department of Shillong College today held the SC Dutta memorial lecture on the topic, ‘Accessing Inner Resources in Crisis Moments ‘.
The resource person for the programme, Fr George Palamattathil, SDB Founder Director of Siloam, Centre for Transformative Leadership talked about the need and importance of drawing strength from within ourselves during times of crisis.
He spoke about the impact of Covid-19 globally and how it has affected people, who most of them have coped with the the crist by drawing strength from within themselves.
Fr George stressed on the importance of being hopeful, kind, loving, caring and to do the best in times of crisis in order to help others. These are the qualities that we should hold onto and that will help us and support us in times of crisis, he added.
