Shillong, May 31: The Congress Party has started its public campaign across Jaintia Hills, covering both West and East Jaintia Hills districts.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president and the party’s candidate for the upcoming Shillong by-election, Vincent Pala, launched the campaign at Khliehriat on Friday, telling party workers that “Congress is alive” and urging supporters to work harder and “not be duped by any elements.”
Pala was MP from 2009 to 2024 before he lost to the Voice of the People Party’s Ricky AJ Syngkon. The latter’s sudden death in February has necessitated the by-election.
During his address, Pala listed initiatives he claimed credit for, including the Shillong-Jowai Bypass, the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road, Shillong-Dawki road, flight connectivity from Guwahati to Bangkok, the Meghalaya High Court, bus service from Guwahati to Bangladesh, upgrades to NEIGRIHMS, etc.
