With the aim to make the village tuberculosis-free, the District Tuberculosis Office of East Khasi Hills conducted an awareness programme on the disease in collaboration with St Edmund’s College’s Department of Social Work today at Mawthawtieng village, Khatarshnong, to reach out to school children, teachers and community members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dajied S Dkhar, Senior Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor, explained about TB, how it spreads, its signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment. The resource persons cited that Mawthangtieng set as an example to other areas under Khatarshong as it currently does not have any tuberculosis cases.
Fillan Khongsit, Senior Treatment Supervisor, encouraged the community members to protect themselves from TB to maintain the village’s enviable status.
After the health talk, the interns of the District TB Office and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan performed an action song and phawar on tuberculosis as an infotainment that aimed to make the people more aware about TB and as a social message about the epidemic disease and efforts to eliminate it.
