With the aim to sensitize about National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan food on Community Support Scheme for TB patients was held in Khliehriat Civil Hospital today.
The programme was organised by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Star Cement Ltd in collaboration with the Office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaiñtia Hills District, Jowai.
Addressing the gathering, District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. E.B.V. Laloo emphasised on wearing of mask by TB patients as the disease is contagious. She urged the patients present at the gathering to regularly take TB medicines and complete their course treatment which is key to recovering from the disease.
”People who live or work in areas where TB is Common, Diabetic patients, and persons with HIV have an increased risk of getting infected”, she said and informed that testing for Tuberculosis can also be done in the District at Khliehriat Civil Hospital and Sutnga CHC.
CSR, Star Cement Deputy Manager, K. K. Borah informed that nutritional support will be provided to 100 tuberculosis patients in the district for three months January, February, and March 2023. He urged TB patients to consume a healthy diet and take TB medicines regularly and follow the doctor’s advice strictly.
Food items distributed at the programme includes milk, eggs, rice, lentils, cooking oil and buckets.
