Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) nominated member Aldo A Sangma, has been accused of spreading a letter falsely attributed to have been written by former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.
The letter that has gone viral on social media was supposedly written by Dr Sangma to BJP national president JP Nadda, expressing his intention to join the saffron party and to grant him ticket to contest the MP elections.
Dated January 11, 2024, the letter that bears the letter head and signature of Dr Sangma claims that the four Trinamool Congress MLAs (Miani D Shira, Zenith Sangma, Mizanur Rahman Kazi and Rupa M Marak) as well as those of the Voice of the People Party (Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Adelbert Nongrum, Heavingstone Kharpran and Brightstarwell Marbaniang) have expressed their willingness to join the BJP.
The Trinamool Congress, Baghmara block has called the letter “fake and forged” aimed at misleading the public and voters on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections.
A complaint to the Returning Officer was submitted by the party and a FIR at the Baghmara police station yesterday.
“The dissemination of these fraudulent messages is being orchestrated by Mr Aldo A Sangma, MDC (nominated) of the National People’s Party and others,” AITC block president, Mejoline S Marak said.
Marak also urged the authorities to take a decisive action to address the matter, saying it undermines the integrity of the electoral process and threatens the democratic principles.
