Another 16 Covid-related deaths were reported in Meghalaya today, along with a record 634 new infections and 237 recoveries.
Fourteen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills.
East Khasi Hills accounted for a massive 443 of today’s reported infections – 16 among returnees, three among armed forces/paramilitaries, 186 high-risk contacts, 37 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), 161 through screening, 11 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), one in Golf Links, one in Happy Valley, one health worker, two in Iewduh, one in Jail Road, one in Jongksha, one in Laitkor, two in Laitumkhrah, two in Langkyrding, one in Mawbah, two in Mawlai, one in Mawpat, one in Nongmynsong, five in Polo, four in Pynthor, one in Rynjah, one in Umpling and one in Upper Shillong.
Ri-Bhoi reported 89 new cases (30 high-risk, 23 ILIs, 10 in Pynthor, six in Lumsohphoh, five armed forces/paramilitaries, three in Umiam, three police personnel, three health workers, two in Umran, two in North East Police Academy, one in Byrnihat, one screening), West Jaintia Hills 41 (19 ILIs, 18 high-risk, two returnees, two screening), North Garo Hills 21 (11 in Bakenang Songma, four high-risk, three ILIs, three screening), West Garo Hills 15 (10 ILIs, four high-risk, one screening), East Jaintia Hills 12 (seven ILIs, four returnees, one screening), South West Garo Hills seven (four ILIs, three in Betasing), West Khasi Hills three (two high-risk, one screening) and East Garo Hills three (two high-risk, one ILI).
There were also 237 recoveries today – 128 in East Khasi Hills, 58 in Ri-Bhoi, 11 in South West Garo Hills, 10 in West Jaintia Hills, nine in West Garo Hills, eight in East Jaintia Hills, five in West Khasi Hills, four in North Garo Hills, three in South West Khasi Hills and one in East Garo Hills.
There are now 4,915 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 2,799 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 682, West Garo Hills 405, West Jaintia Hills 324, South West Garo Hills 183, East Jaintia Hills 182 and West Khasi Hills 151.
In all, Meghalaya has had 23,966 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,915 are active, 18,715 have recovered and 336 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 78.09 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.40 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 548.4. More than 4.03 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of today.
