A new mural on the wall of the Department of Textiles and Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving was formally unveiled here today.
This artwork is part of the ‘Donate a Wall’ initiative by St+art India, a not-for-profit organisation that works on art projects in public spaces, in collaboration with Asian Paints.
Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh, Principal Secretary FR Kharkongor and officers and staff of the department and directorate were present.
In his speech, Lyngdoh said that more such murals are coming up and they show the rest of the world that Meghalaya is not only God-gifted but man has also contributed his bit to make the state more scenic and eye-catching.
“Meghalaya’s biggest strength is nature, our culture, its climate, our customs, cuisine and colours and these should be good enough to enable any visitor to this place to immerse himself in this experience and thereby go back home and tell the rest of the world that Meghalaya is a slice of paradise and home to colours and beauty,” he said, adding that these murals make a change from the only other artwork that was seen previously on government buildings, namely in the instructions plastered on the wall against rubbing lime or spitting.
