Social activist Greneth M Sangma has complained to the State Chief Information Commissioner about an alleged failure by a government body to reply to a Right to Information (RTI) request.
Greneth said that he had filed the RTI with the Meghalaya Basin Development Agency (MBDA) on July 24, 2024 seeking details of projects under central and state schemes over the last three years and failed to get a response even after he visited the office in person on August 29.
The RTI was directed to the Public Information Officer of the MBDA in South Garo Hills, Brilliar Ch Sangma.
Since the PIO has seemingly failed to provide the information sought for under the RTI, this constitutes a violation of the RTI Act 2005, Greneth said, and he requested the Commissioner to direct the PIO to provide the answers forthwith as well as to impose a financial penalty as prescribed by the act.
The RTI was filed by Greneth while he was still the vice-president of the ACHIK pressure group and the request was submitted on paper with an ACHIK letterhead. Since then, however, Greneth resigned from ACHIK.
