Shillong, Oct 7: The Health and Family Welfare Department today issued another order for the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) courses, after the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) objected the inclusion of a non tribal student who got less marks in the NEET, deleting its earlier order of September 30.
The KSU had opposed the earlier order issued on September 30 stating that non-tribal students with lesser NEET scores than tribal students were included in the open category.
Out of these 93 seats, 14 students have been allocated from the unreserved list, 37 from the Khasi-Jaintia list, 37 from the Garo list and 5 from the OST/SC. In addition, 35 students have been placed on the waiting list.
According to an order issued by the Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Dr Rezina Ch Marak on Tuesday, the list was issued after the meeting of September 6 between the government led by Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and the KSU.
As per the new list, one student, Tanushka Chakraborty, who first got a seat in the unreserved list, has been taken to the waiting list after a thorough evaluation.
The KSU in a meeting with Shylla on Monday, said that the selection of students is unclear and does not go according to the marks received in the NEET, where the students who got less marks were included in the unreserved list while the Khasi students who got more marks were rejected.
The KSU has demanded the removal of clause 9.6 of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which requires the students to choose between the Unreserved (Open) and the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
