New crack has again surfaced on the under construction Dwar Ksuid RCC Bridge at Umroi in Ri-Bhoi district.
This was flagged by six pressure group leaders and a former rangbah shnong in a complaint to Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner today.
Seeking immediate enquiry and inspection of the bridge, the complainants said the crack was seen on January 13. “Due to this, the RCC Bridge was now in a very bad condition. It is also a very harmful to all the vehicles which ply over every day and might put the life of people in danger,” they said.
The complainants, MUSO president Aiborlang Jyrwa, HYC Bhoirymbong circle president Tyngshain Makri, MPUF president Jactson Sohtun, MPSO secretary Audrey Syiemlieh, former FKJGP president Bishar Dhar and former rangbah shnong of Syllei-U- Kronding Nongbsap, also urged the Deputy Commissioner to stop all heavy loaded trucks to prevent further damage to the bridge and to take immediate action in three days.
On November 16 last year, the District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi imposed an order under Section 144 of the CrPC to prohibit the plying of vehicles in excess of 30 tonnes over the bridge and the plying of two heavy vehicles at the same time over the bridge, after a wall collapsed following landslide.
