Shillong, Apr 29: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has constituted several committees for one year with effect from May 1, 2026.
One of the committees newly formed is the Committee on Petitions, established under Rules 239. The Committee serves as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and grievances to the Legislative Assembly.
The Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, as a part of this formation, has appointed Pongseng R. Marak, MLA, to lead the Committee on Petitions.
The others are Committee on Empowerment of Women to be chaired by MLA Santa Mary Shylla, MLA Rakkam A Sangma to chair the Committee on Environment, Committee on Privileges to be chaired by MLA Marthon J Sangma, Committee on Subordinate Legislation with MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem as chairman, Committee on Government Assurances under MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar and the Library Committee under Jim M Sangma.
