The Department of Neurology, NEIGRIHMS today held a poster making competition to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia to commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day.
The theme, “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s Disease,” reflects the growing need to address these conditions, which are increasing worldwide, the institute said.
The competition was held in three categories for nursing officers, interns and resident doctors and OPD Staff of various departments. Winners in each category were recognized for their creativity and contribution to spreading awareness.
“This initiative showcases NEIGRIHMS dedication to enhancing knowledge in their staff and educating the public on the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and thereby combat the associated stigma,” it said.
During the prize distribution ceremony, NEIGRIHMS Director, Prof. Dr. Nalin Mehta lauded the participants for their creative contributions and highlighted the critical role of caregivers in managing dementia, calling for increased societal support for both patients and their families.
In the absence of a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, he emphasised on the need to educate and train family members of patients with the disease, so that the helpless patients are cared for with dignity and respect.
