The Department of Dentistry at NEIGRIHMS organised a three-day workshop earlier this month on ‘Oral Healthcare in tribal population of North East India’.
The workshop ran from November 12 to 14. It was graced by NEIGRIHMS Dean Dr GK Medhi, Dr L Swasticharan, Dr C Daniella and Prof N Tasse. Resource persons included Dr Vikrant Mohanty from New Delhi, Dr Nandita Kshetrimayum from RIMS Imphal, Dr Kavipriya Outtamane from Puducherry and Dr Ankita Piplani, who enriched the participants with their knowledge and approach to improve oral healthcare. State Nodal Officers from all eight North East states also attended the workshop.
This workshop highlighted the challenges faced by states in the region, strategies for overcoming the challenges by proper policy making and aims at achieving the goal for maintaining good oral health at the grassroots.
A health camp was also held on November 14 at Tyrna village as part of the workshop. Dr S Vijay Singh, head of the Dentistry Department at NEIGRIHMS, along with his team, conducted clinical examinations for every participant along with distribution of medicines, toothpastes and toothbrushes.
