The 29th IASLIC (Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres) National Seminar, organised by the Central Library, NEHU, Shillong, was inaugurated yesterday by Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi.
University librarian and organising secretary FR Sumer extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, invitees and all the participants. A welcome song was presented by the research scholars of the Department of Library and Information Science to set the right tone for the seminar.
IASLIC general secretary Abhijit Kumar gave a concise introduction of the theme of the seminar, followed by a formal address by IASLIC Zone 5 vice-president Prof Sanjay K Singh.
Kharlukhi released the seminar souvenir and inaugurated the seminar. He informed about a tribal-centric museum to be established in Garo Hills and proposed that technical advice be sought from the NEHU Central Library to further its objectives. He also advised the library to propose a project to the DoNER Department to established a digital archive on the knowledge of Meghalaya and the other North Eastern states, which will bring in great benefits to the state and the region and which will also have a positive impact of the tourism industry.
The IASLIC Special Award was presented to T Padmavathi, Pr. Tech Officer, FOSTIS/Library CSIR-Central Food Technol. Res. Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru 20, India in recognition of her as a renowned and meritorious serving library professionals.
