A one-day entrepreneurship awareness Programme (EAP) was organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of NEHU on August 14.
The programme was aimed to encourage entrepreneurial spirit in the region by strengthening the existing ecosystem promoting and nurturing innovation and start-ups.
Organised in collaboration with PRIME hub, students, entrepreneurs, academicians and researchers from various higher education institutions in the East Khasi Hill district attended the programme.
Renowned professionals from academia, industry and start-ups discussed in depth with the participants their plans and ideas for initiating entrepreneurial activities in the region and how they can make their businesses viable and feasible in the long run.
About 50 participants attended the event and selected best 10 ideas that would be incubated for attending the week-long EDP boot-camp, which would be held in October, 2024.
In his welcome address, Project Leader Dr. Dinesh Bhatia emphasised the need of such initiatives by the government and how it would help in nurturing and promoting the importance of such programmes in young minds and create a thriving ecosystem for the region and the State. He encouraged the attendees to expand the advantages of such government-sponsored initiatives to college drop-out students and unemployed youths in their respective institutes, promoting an entrepreneurial and empowering culture.
Adviser Prime Hub Dr. Laxmi Rao, highlighted the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and how they can thrive in the competitive world by overcoming constant stress and struggles which are involved in running any business. She also emphasized on utilising different business strategies and technological tools to help run their activities successfully to make them sustainable.
Jefferson Rani and Gladeen Shullai from Prime Hub along with Dr. Bhatia interacted with participants and discussed ideas, business development models and understanding their feasibility for long-term sustainability. They suggested remedial solutions and what more the entrepreneurs could explore to make their model successful.
The centre plans to organise two more such EAPs in September at St. Anthony’s College and St. Mary’s College.
