Former senior civil servant RV Suchiang, who retired as Meghalaya Chief Secretary, was today sworn in as the new State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here.
The oath of office was administered by Governor CH Vijayashankar in the presence of state government officials.
Suchiang will serve a three-year term as the CIC of Meghalaya. The State Information Commissioner, which she now heads, looks into aspects of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The CIC is appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Chief Minister, leader of the opposition and a cabinet minister nominated by the CM.
Those appointed to the post should be a person of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media or administration and governance, the commission’s website states.
