North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) featured among the top 51 central universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2025. However, its ranking slipped from 18th in 2024 to 29th position this year.
In the 2023 ranking, the university secured the 15th position among the top central universities.
Among private universities, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), William Carey University and University of Science and Technology Meghalaya secured the top 100 position, with 62nd 67th and 77th positions respectively.
MLCU in a statement today said it is proud of its performance. Ranked first among private universities in Meghalaya, second in the Northeast, the university said, “This recognition reflects the university’s growing reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and its commitment to producing graduates aligned with workforce needs.”
Founded in 2005, MLCU has consistently championed an inclusive, student centered approach to education. The university continues to play a vital role in shaping skilled, compassionate professionals who contribute meaningfully to society, the statement said.
The Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) evaluates over 2,500 institutions across India, assessing them on parameters such as academic strength, research output, industry engagement, placement performance, and overall institutional perception.
