There is a need for greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the former Deputy Chief Executive Member, Pynshngain N Syiem, has said.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had come down heavily against the KHADC over its failings in these two aspects, with the complete lack of an open job recruitment process one of the issues highlighted.
The council had recently constituted a public accounts committee, to be led by opposition leader Titosstarwell Chyne as Chairman, and once it is convened it will consider all the observations of the CAG.
He also suggested that there should be an internal audit conducted quarterly so that transparency and accountability can be maintained. Syiem also stressed that the district council should have a recruitment policy so that appointments also are done as per the policy and that there is a need to amend the outdated district council service rules so that the executive committee in the future also follows them.
