Meghalaya is continuing to experience near record-breaking temperatures, with the mercury in Umiam hitting 33.2 degrees Celsius, the second-highest temperature ever recorded there in the month of June.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) station in Shillong reported a high of 29.0 C, the fifth-highest June temperature, while Sohra was close behind at 28.9 C, again the fifth-highest there. These temperatures are all significantly above what is normally seen.
Umiam’s record in June is 34.5 C, which was logged on June 3, 2005. Shillong’s maximum June temperature was 29.7 C on June 10, 1999, while that of Sohra was 29.9 C two years ago on June 9, 2023.
No rain was recorded at Sohra station today, while Shillong received just 0.2mm and Umiam 1.0mm.
The IMD is predicting scattered thunderstorms in the state on Friday.
