A three-day national seminar on ‘Futuristic Agriculture: Technology, Sustainability and Beyond’ was inaugurated today at the College of Post-Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS), Umiam.
This event is being organised in collaboration with the Society for Community Mobilisation for Sustainable Development, National Horticulture Board, ICAR Research Complex for NH Region and ICAR-ATARI (Zone VI Guwahati and Zone VII Umiam).
The seminar will serve as a platform for scientists, scholars, policymakers and practitioners to deliberate on emerging technologies, sustainable practices and transformative policies essential for advancing Indian agriculture.
Around 325 experts from across the country will share insights on agricultural innovation, resource conservation, digital and climate-smart farming and community engagement strategies.
Chairman of the Agricultural Science Recruitment Board, Dr. Sanjay Kumar in his address highlighted the importance of forward-looking agricultural research, policy innovation, and capacity building to drive the next wave of agricultural transformation in India.
DDG (Agricultural Extension) Dr. Rajvir Singh cited examples on the sustainable farming practices by farmers of Punjab and emphasized on the usages of quality data.
Dr. J.P. Sharma (Ex- VC- SKUAST Jammu) emphasized the needs for transformative approaches to agriculture, with a focus on integrating modern technologies to address the emerging challenges of food security and climate change. He also added that there were eight themes and more than 400 scientific manuscripts were compiled.
Dr. P. S. Pandey (VC- RP CAU), cited examples on digital agriculture and space technology in transforming farming sectors. Similarly, Dr. B. R. Kamboj (VC-HAU) narrated on the usage of resources for climate resilient farming practices while Dr. M. C. Sharma (Ex- VC- IVRI) highlighted the key issues for sustaining livestock sectors in India.
Dr. P.K. Chakroborty (Ex-Member ASRB) focused on the requirement of PPP mode for sustainable agricultural practices and Atul Jain (General Secretary Pandit Deendayal Shodh Sansthan) emphasised on linking farmers with the agricultural institutions for their sustainable livelihoods.
