Shillong, Jun 26: In recent days, police stations and outposts across the Ri-Bhoi district have been proactively conducting awareness programs to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
These initiatives focus on educating the younger generation about the perils of drug abuse, laying down the foundation for a healthier community.
The district police held these programmes in various schools, including Mahatma Gandhi University, Patharkmah Higher Secondary School, Sachit Christian Secondary School, Umtrai, Plielad Secondary School, Mawlasnai, RCUP School, Umtyrnga Presbyterian School, Lamalong LP School, Khanapara Bazar, Umshru RMSA Secondary School, Mynken Christian Higher Secondary School, Bhoirymbong, Kyrdemkulai and PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEPA.
By targeting educational institutions, they aim to instill positive values and healthy choices among students.
Through awareness programmes, authorities emphasised the harmful effects associated with drug abuse. The district police said by encouraging healthy habits from an early age, the initiative aims to prevent future substance abuse, ensuring that children can grow up in supportive environments free from the negative impact of drug activities.
