The public including 12 nokmas, self help groups and NGOs in Monabari, West Garo Hills have appealed to the state government to revoke the transfer of a police officer who they feel was a sincere and dedicated officer.
A meeting to discuss the recent transfer of police in charge of Monabari outpost, Arpheus N Sangma was held yesterday wherein the locals voiced their strong desire for him to continue serving in the area.
Stating that the officer has become an integral part of our community in the area, the locals said that his exceptional leadership and dedication have brought peace and prosperity to the community, making his transfer a potential loss.
According to residents of the area, there have been false allegations levelled against the officer by people involved in illegal activities. “We stand by Sangma’s commitment to justice and his tireless efforts to eradicate illegal activities, and we will not let these baseless allegations tarnish his reputation,” they added.
The people also highlighted his achievements in eradicating illegal activities such as drug peddling, alcohol, smuggling. They said the police officer has addressed numerous concerns of senior citizens, advocated for justice and worked diligently to uphold the law and protect the rights of the community, among others.
A decision was also taken to take up the matter with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
