The tragic case of Teibor Mangu, a 29-year-old man from Tyrso Pdeng village in Ri-Bhoi, has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by individuals suffering from mental illness.
Teibor, who had been mentally ill since childhood, went missing yesterday evening and was found dead by his relatives today in the forest of Lumshnong Tyrso.
His uncle, Ojrin Mangu, reported the disappearance to the Mawlasnai police outpost after Teibor was found hanging from a tree with a plastic rope. This discovery came after an extensive search by family members and local villagers.
Police took the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy to establish the precise cause of death. However, despite being advised on the importance of a post-mortem examination, Teibor’s family sought an exemption, believing there was no foul play involved. Their request was granted by the Executive Magistrate, AL Myrthong.
A case of unnatural death has been registered.
