Karatekas from the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) brought further honour to the state by clinching five gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the 8th International Karate Championship – Indian Challenger Cup 2024 in Kolkata recently.
The tournament ran from July 26 to 28, with AMKA releasing the results yesterday.
Twenty-two AMKA karatekas took part in the three-day championship, led by Ester Mary Lyngdoh and Pynhunlang Kharbuli.
Gold medals were won by Phidaiakashisha Lyngdoh (cadet girls -54kg), Iwannaki L Khongji (cadet girls -42kg), Ferrando Wanniang (13 years boys -45kg), Nongpoknganba T Kharmawphlang (13 years boys -40kg) and Aibor Jyrwa (12 years boys -40kg).
The two silver medals were claimed by Phindasumarlin Rani (women -45kg) and Lapyntngen Mary Lamin (12 years girls -40kg), while the bronze medals went to Cathy Sweety Nongrum (junior girls -42kg), Feliza Hujon (cadet girls -54kg) and Rupaly Deka (cadet girls -42kg).
All the medals were won in individual kumite (sparring).
