The four-day Megha Kayak Festival 2022, organised by the Ri-Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Cooperative Society, concluded today at the picturesque Umtrew River.
Participants from various parts of the world competed in various categories during the festival, which aims to be the biggest kayaking event in the Indian subcontinent.
Both amateurs and professionals took part, with close to 20 countries represented across the 100 participants.
Locals from Umtham village also had a go in the amateur category and expressed their joy and excitement and getting an opportunity to try their hand at an adventure sport like this.
Ian and Sheela Vincent of Shillong Whitewater Village, the location of the event, expressed their gratitude to all the participants and the people who put their heart and soul into the event and they hoped that the festival also benefits the local people and the state’s tourism sector.
The festival concluded with a prize distribution ceremony.
