An ongoing court case has to be completed before any movement of settlers away from the Maxwelton Estate in Laban can take place, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said today.
The estate is close to the temporary Assembly building in Rilbong. A pressure group had recently given a 15-day deadline for action against the “illegal settlers” in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said that if the residents are indeed illegal settlers then they will have to be prepared to move. “This is why I am saying, let the law take its own course,” he said.
On security in the area, Tynsong said that the district administration is on the job to make sure that everybody is safe. Police patrolling has also been intensified in the area.
