Following several controversies, the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) today made public the marks obtained by candidates who sat for the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) preliminary examination held on November 4, 2023.
The marks of Paper-I (Original) and marks of Paper-I (After Reassessment) were disclosed for the candidates from serial number one to 24,943. The details can be accessed on the MPSC website.
Further, the MPSC also made public the answer keys for the examination from number one to 100.
It also showed the answers to questions which were wrongly marked in the original answer keys.
In Series-I, the answers which were wrongly marked were to the questions Q58 A, Q74 C, Q76 D.
In Series-II, the answers which were wrongly marked were to the questions Q47 A, Q63 C, Q65 D.
In Series-III, the answers which were wrongly marked were to the questions Q73 A, Q89 C, Q91 D.
In Series-IV, the answers which were wrongly marked were to the questions Q45 A, Q61 C, Q63 D.
It may be mentioned that the results of the MCS preliminary examination were officially declared on December 15, 2023.
However, the subsequent announcement of an additional list of candidates seven months later, just two months before the mains examination, has raised significant concerns about the integrity and transparency of the examination process.
The delay and the timing of this additional list have led to widespread allegations of unfair practices, nepotism, and manipulation, undermining the confidence of candidates and the public in the MPSC.
The concerns are compounded by the recent allegations that three questions in the preliminary examination were incorrect. This issue, coupled with the sudden inclusion of additional candidates, has led many to question the fairness of the evaluation process and the legitimacy of the examination results.
The disclosure of the marks of all the candidates who have appeared in the MCS (Prelims) Examination came a day after a meeting between KSU leaders with MPSC Chairman Paul Reader Marwein.
According to the minutes of the meeting signed by both MPSC and KSU, it was agreed that the MSPC would publish the marks of all the candidates who have appeared in the MCS (Prelims) Examination within 24 hours.
During the meeting, the MPSC also promised to publish the answer keys including the incorrect and corrected answer keys and the three wrong questions along with the correct answers within 24 hours.
