The Multi-technology Testing Centre and Vocational Training Centre, College of Community Science, Tura, organised a farmers’ interest group event on the use of vermicompost and biofertilizer for the cultivation of foxtail millet yesterday.
Dean of the college Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad emphasised the significance of millet as a miracle crop with a low water footprint. She highlighted millet as an alternative for crop diversification in the Garo Hills, promoting climate resiliency.
She urged farmers to expand millet cultivation to enhance the nutritional security of farming communities.
The program was attended by farmers from Babadam village of West Garo Hills district, as well as faculty and staff of the college.
During the event, seeds of foxtail millet, sorghum (great millet), and pearl millet, along with biofertilizer (CAU Bioenhancer) and vermicompost, were distributed to the farmers for millet cultivation.
