Teams from Manai and Mawlai were victorious in football and basketball tournaments organised by the Dorbar Seng Kur Warjri to celebrate the clan organisation’s 25th jubilee.
One of the many events to have been held over the past year of celebrations, the football tournament was named in memory of DL Warjri and was held from October 21 to 25 at Rangshken football ground. There were 12 participating teams from Upper Shillong, Wahlang, Manai, Pyndemumiong, Thynroit, Mawphlang, Mawkneng, Siejiong, Pommura-Nongkynrih, Mawlai Datbaki, Urur Rangshken and Mawprem.
The final on October 25 was played between the host team Urur Rangshken and Manai, where the Manai team emerged as champions with a 1-0 result in their favour. Freddy Fender Warjri of the Manai unit was adjudged as the Best Goalkeeper, while Balajied Warjri of Manai and Shimbor Warjri of Urur Rangshken were joint top scorers with four goals each. Balajiedalso won the Best Player title, while young Micky Berth Warjri earned the title of the Promising Footballer.
Meanwhile, a basketball tournament was also held in male and female categories with participating teams from Mawlai, Laitumkhrah, Wahlang and Mawprem. Mawlai won both events, beating Wahlang in the female category and Mawprem in the male category.
