In an appalling case, a man, one Wanjer Lawriniang, was convicted of raping his own biological mother and sentenced to life in prison by the Court of Session judge in Nongstoin today.
Lawriniang was also fined Rs 50,000 for this offence of raping a relative and he was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for causing voluntary hurt.
The man was accused of raping his mother in March 2019 at their own home in Thangmaw village, West Khasi Hills. Mairang Police Station took up the case and, through the “immense efforts by police officers and staff of the district”, the accused person was arrested and prosecuted successfully, the office of the West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police said today.
