Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra reached Mawkyrwat today to campaign for the party’s candidate, Sounder Cajee, with 12,000 attending the meeting, the TMC claimed.
While most visiting political heavyweights tend to skip the Khasi-Jaiñtia hinterland, Moitra did not, as the TMC hopes to make inroads in South West Khasi Hills.
Hitting out corruption and unemployment, Moitra and Cajee said that the TMC is the only political party that can bring back Meghalaya’s lost glory and pride.
The MP once again latched onto the words of Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) figure Amit Shah the other day when he described Meghalaya as the most corrupt state in the country. She demanded accountability from the state government over the alleged scandals that have plagued its five-year reign and turned on the BJP (a junior partner in the coalition government), saying, “Home Minister Amit Shah came and said that Meghalaya is the most corrupt state. I want to ask the Home Minister, you have run the government with NPP and UDP (United Democratic Party) for five years – why was no action taken?”
