LPG Price Hike Burdens Common People

      Editor,

The recent increase in LPG cooking gas prices has become a serious concern for households across the country especially in rural and semi-urban areas. At a time when the cost of essential commodities such as food items, electricity, fuel, healthcare and education continues to rise the hike in LPG rates has further intensified the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

LPG is an essential household fuel used by millions of families. The continuous rise in its price has severely affected middle-class households, daily wage earners, farmers, pensioners and economically weaker sections. Many families are finding it increasingly difficult to manage monthly expenses and are forced to cut down on other essential needs to afford cooking gas.

In rural and high-range regions where income sources are often limited and irregular the impact is even more severe. Plantation workers, small farmers and low-income families are struggling to cope with rising living costs. The situation often leads to financial stress and reduces the overall quality of life.

The impact is not limited to households alone. Small businesses such as tea shops, bakeries, small restaurants band catering services that depend on LPG are also facing increased operating costs. These additional expenses are often passed on to consumers contributing to inflation and making daily life more expensive for everyone.

Another serious concern is that higher LPG prices may discourage the use of clean cooking fuel. Some families may be forced to return to traditional fuels like firewood and kerosene which can lead to indoor air pollution, respiratory diseases and environmental degradation. This also weakens the progress made in promoting clean energy and public health.

It is essential that the government takes immediate steps to review LPG pricing and strengthen subsidy mechanisms for deserving households and ensure price stability. Protecting citizens from frequent fuel price fluctuations is necessary for maintaining social welfare and economic stability.
