Meghalaya is set to experience a round of load shedding from this week.
The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MPDCL) today has alerted the people that emergency power cuts will be resorted in the entire State depending on availability of power from today.
According to the MPDCL, the load shedding is resorted due to emergency shutdown of one unit of OTPC power station in Tripura for three days from today resulting in decreased share of power from the central generating station.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineering Department has informed that Shillong city will not be supplied with drinking water for 72 long hours from March 29. However, the stoppage of water supply is not related to load shedding.
The department today informed that due to stringing of 220 KV DC Killing-Mawngap-New Shillong Transmission Line between tower location AP-4/0 to AP 5/0 at Mawphlang by Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), the dedicated 33 KV Sub Station for Greater Shillong Water Supply (GSWS) water works at Mawphlang will be affected.
“Hence, the pumping operation from the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme shall be placed under suspension for three days from Wednesday to Friday,” the PHE Department said adding that due to this, there will be no water supply from Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme in Shillong and its adjoining areas during the three days.
“Efforts shall be made to resume the supply by Saturday and reduce shutdown time to the extent possible,” the department added.
