Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun has expressed concern over an apparent lack of training in the disposal of dead bodies of people who were Covid-positive.
Sohtun himself has witnessed the problem faced by the family of someone who died of Covid-19 when they could not locate the services of someone trained in burial or cremation of such bodies.
Ri-Bhoi has seen an increase of more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases since the start of April, a 75 percent increase, and several deaths linked to the disease.
Yesterday Sohtun submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Health Minister AL Hek on the need to provide training and equipment to those in Ri-Bhoi responsible for performing the last rites of people who die of the coronavirus.
