The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has proposed setting up a joint office with the State Khadi Board in Shillong.
KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and discussed about the proposal and various schemes of the commission. A marketing collaboration with Khadi India for state-level Khadi products and employment generation in the tourism sector through the establishment of homestays in Meghalaya under the PMEGP were also discussed.
Kumar was on a two-day visit to the State to extend the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Local to Global’ campaigns. The chairman visited Pynursla and Amlarem blocks and distributed 400 bee-boxes and bee colonies to 40 beekeepers.
Kumar also attended an awareness camp organized under the PMEGP and Gramodyog Vikas Yojana in Mawlynnong where he interacted with the participants. He also visited a homestay PMEGP unit in Cherrapunjee, which received a loan of Rs 10 lakh, with a margin money subsidy of Rs 3.5 lakh, that accounted for 35 per cent of the loan amount
He also inaugurated a restaurant set up through the PMEGP and distributed electrician toolkits to 20 beneficiaries at Don Bosco Technical School in Laitumkhrah.
