The Khasi Students Union (KSU) in West Jaiñtia Hills district has raised concerns over the safety of two bridges connecting rural villages in the district.
According to the union in Shangpung, the Umpyai bridge that connects Shangpung and Mynska and Myllep bridge in Saphai are no longer safe as cracks have developed due to overloading of heavy vehicles.
The union conducted inspections at these two bridges today and stated that though load limit signboards erected by the PWD were overlooked.
The KSU has demanded the state government to take steps to fix the two bridges that are now dangerous for vehicles to ply and action against overloading.
