The organisation Child Friendly Shillong along with their Child Rights Club of Mawlai Nonglum, Motsyiar, Nongpathaw organised a road safety awareness programme on June 8.
The programme was supported by the president of the Mawlai Town Dall, H War, the headman of Mawlai Nonglum JS War and youths and adults from different parts of Mawlai.
The Child Rights Club members conducted a road safety walk along the Nonglum-Mawlai Pump-Motsyiar-Umjaiur-Nongpathaw route.
A total of 55 children from various Child Rights Clubs from Mawlai were part of the programme where they spread awareness and demanded that drivers and riders follow traffic rules and make the roads safer, especially for children.
The children raised slogans such as “Slow drive, long life”, “We want safety and security in our roads”, “No parking in the road”, “Wear helmet on two-wheelers”, “Don’t drink and drive”, “Do not use mobiles while driving/riding”, etc.
