The Department of Economics at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in collaboration with the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI) and ICSSR-NERC began a three-day international workshop on the philosophy of economics yesterday.
The workshop, under the chairmanship of Prof Moses M Naga, Dean of SEMIS, witnessed the presence of NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla, who served as the chief guest. In his address, Shukla emphasised the imperative of bringing economics closer to reality, marking a significant departure from traditional pedagogical approaches.
Prof Biswambhara Mishra, Head of the Department of Economics, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed speakers, participants and students. The keynote address was delivered by Prof Muriel Dal Pont Legrand, Professor of Economic Sciences at France’s Université Côte d’Azur.
Over the three days the workshop will delve into a myriad of critical issues, ranging from ‘Indian Economic Thought’ to the economic philosophies of distinguished individuals such as Keynes, Schumpeter, Sraffa, Hegel and Marx, alongside discussions on institutional economics.
As economics stands at a crossroads, the workshop endeavours to reignite a dialogue that integrates historical, philosophical and practical dimensions into economic discourse, fostering a more holistic understanding of the discipline.
