The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has supported the decision taken by the Mawsynram dorbar to disallow pilgrimage to Mawjymbuin cave.
Located in Mawsynram, around 60 kms away from Shillong, the cave has witnessed hordes of tourists and pilgrims across the country to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva as part of the Kanwar Yatra or Bol Bam Yatra celebration.
However, the dorbar shnong at an executive committee meeting held on August 1 decided not to allow the cave to become a place of worship for any group.
The dorbar maintained that its decision is not against any religion but a stance taken against any public worship since the Mawjymbuiñ Cave is a designated tourist attraction rather than a place of worship.
Stating that in the past few years there has been an attempt by some particular religion to convert the tourist spot into a religious place KHNAM said the decision taken by the dorbar shnong should be appreciated.
“Any attempt of the organiser to carry on with the Yatra would mean forceful conduct of the event without the permission of the concerned authority, and if so, the district administration needs to take immediate and stringent actions against those involved,” the party said.
