The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is ready to provide financial assistance to people affected by the extreme weather events that hit the state in the last few days.
Speaking to Highland Post, Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne informed that the KHADC used to earmark Rs 15 lakh annually out of its budget to assist those affected by natural calamities under its jurisdiction.
So far this year, however, the CEM has yet to receive reports from the MDCs and he is also yet to submit reports of the various calamities that occurred in his constituency.
He explained that the reports are submitted by constituents to their respective MDCs after being verified by the Rangbah Shnong along with documentary, such as photographs, and the MDC then submits the reports to the CEM before sanction for relief is approved.
Aid is provided to people whose roofs have been blown away by strong winds, or whose property has been destroyed due to hail, fire, etc.
Informing that he has also been appointed as the co-chairman in the Eastern West Khasi Hills Disaster Management Authority, Chyne said that once the committee holds a meeting, he will raise the issue of enhancing the assistance from the department to the victims of natural calamity.
