The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) organised an overseas placement workshop here today, with participation from principals of leading nursing institutes, students, job seekers and training providers.
The workshop was inaugurated and led by Jagdish Chelani, Executive Director of MSSDS, who highlighted the importance of preparing Meghalaya’s youth to meet global skill demands.
Chelani addressed the gathering, saying, “Our society (MSSDS) is committed to building a skilled, globally competitive workforce. These initiatives are pivotal stepping stones in creating international career pathways for our youth.”
The workshop featured interactive sessions conducted by industry experts from Japan, covering vital topics such as global job market trends, essential skill sets for overseas employment, visa processes and cultural adaptability.
Participants were also given the opportunity to engage in one-on-one counseling sessions with placement agencies, exploring prospects across sectors like healthcare, hospitality, IT and construction.
Japan has been the destination of a number of nurses from Meghalaya over the last couple of years. The country is faced with a shrinking workforce as the country is ageing rapidly.
Toshiaki Nishikawa, Chairman and CEO of Asean Group, Japan, personally interacted with the youth present. He invited them to explore employment opportunities in Japan, describing it as a golden opportunity, and emphasised the strong cultural, climatic and topographical similarities between Japan and Meghalaya.
Following the workshop, the Japanese delegation, accompanied by MSSDS officials, visited the newly upgraded Training Centre for Overseas Placement and the IT Park at Umsawli.
