As part of its ‘Save Jaiñtia Mission’, the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) through its self constituted employment commission conducted an inspection in cement companies located in East Jaintia Hills and pushed back migrant workers.
According to the chairman of the commission, Ency Shadap and Secretary Mebanteilang Sukhlaiñ a significant number of workers lacked proper licenses.
Shadap said the workers were removed and warned factories against hiring individuals from outside the state when local residents are available for such jobs.
JNC general secretary Wanshwa Suting said its ‘mission’ adopted with the aim of protecting the interests and improving the welfare of the Jaiñtia community, will continue with such inspections to be conducted in other factories across the region.
He said one of the key objectives of the mission is to urge the state government to implement policies that prioritise the employment of local residents, particularly in the factories situated in Jaiñtia Hills.
