To enable farmers to market their produce, the Jaiñtia Hills Development Society (JHDS) today dedicated a shop at Mihmyntdu in West Jaiñtia Hills, which was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Alexander Mukhim.
The society constructed the shop through its own resources with the support of the Caritas India and Misereor Germany, the agencies working for the welfare of the famers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mukhim lauded the efforts of the society and said the initiative would not only boost the income of farmers but alleviate their problems.
He also urged officers of government departments and SHGs to work in coordination with the society for overall development.
The inauguration was also attended by Block Development Officer, Thadlaskein B. Blah, Senior Scientist of KVK Jowai D. Paswet, District Project Manager Basin Development Shiwel Lyngdoh, Assistant General Manager of NABARD Grevile Kharlukhi, Assistant Director of Agriculture Marbiang Lamare, Subject Matter Specialist of KVK Jowai Dr. Rimiki Suchiang, Director of the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) H.H Mohrmen and Lambormi Suchen, Skill Development Officer of West Jaiñtia Hills.
The society also felicitated Sakhilang Lamare a farmer and secretary of the Village Organisation and handed an oven to the Shisur Self Help Group to bake millet food products.
