The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising various student and staff groups has challenged North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla to prove the legality of the contentious appointment of one of his aides.
The JAC is seeking the removal of a technical officer/senior consultant, Rohit Prasad, who it claims was appointed without following requisite norms. The appointment was one of several issues that the JAC had against the VC but has lately risen to become seemingly the biggest priority subject for the committee.
The JAC has given Shukla a deadline of November 3 to terminate Prasad from his role.
The VC has defended Prasad’s appointment and the JAC has today challenged him to an “open debate” in front of the media with all the documents Shukla is said to possess justifying Prasad’s employment.
Meanwhile, the JAC has also resolved to “further strengthen our agitation” by holding a second general assembly on November 3 at 3:30pm in front of the VC’s office.
